God Loves Us Through Protecting His Glory

Abba,

Isaiah 48:9-11 shines so much light and wonder upon your Love.

9     “For my name’s sake I defer my anger;
for the sake of my praise I restrain it for you,
that I may not cut you off.
    10     Behold, I have refined you, but not as silver;
I have tried you in the furnace of affliction.
    11     For my own sake, for my own sake, I do it,
for how should my name be profaned?
My glory I will not give to another.

 The Holy Bible: English Standard Version. (2016). (Is 48:9–11). Wheaton, IL: Crossway Bibles.

You withhold your anger, You restrain the impulse of Your holy wrath…NOT for Israel’s sake, but for Your own.  You did it, not because of their value, worthy, or for their sake, to protect or preserve them…you did it, with the ultimate goal of YOUR GLORY in mind.

Father, the amazing truth is this…Your pursuit of Your glory, You protection of that glory is actually the highest form of love you can show us.  You withhold your wrath, in order to protect Your own glory, and in protecting Your own glory, you grant us something remarkable to gaze upon, to fall prostate on the ground before, and worship!  In the same way that Your Holy wrath, when it is unleashed with terrible fury displays the glory of Your name and majesty, when it is restrained thus as it is here in Isaiah, it it for the purpose of declaring the wonder of Your name.  So, whether You restrain Your power, as a mighty warrior in complete control of His emotions, or whether you give full vent as a God and judge who issues forth perfect justice, YOUR GLORY is always the object and intent.

And in manifesting Your glory, we come to see what a glorious God You are and we are drawn into worship and obedience!

In fact, the pursuit of Your glory is the greatest act of Love You can show to us…for in the pursuit of Your Glory, You grant to us the greatest and more precious thing You can give…Yourself.  You grant us knowledge and insight into Your nature and being.  And like the inability NOT to fall in love when we see the gorgeous rays of the sun rising and painting the clouds and sky explosive shades of color, so much more, it is hard to see Your glory and not fall intensely in love with You.  Your glory ought to draw us and bind us to you.

Thank you for revealing Your Glory and for making Your Glory the pursuit of all You do!  Give us eyes to see and hearts that are humbled in the presence of such Glory!

We love you, Abba!

Amen!
